Maths skills we know

Subitising

Subitising means looking at a collection quickly and recognising the amount without counting. You can practise with the Jack Hartman song and with the rolling dice game.

Writing Numerals

Practice writing numbers at home to continue working on developing fine motor/pencil grip skills as well as number skills in Mathematics. There are many different ways to do this such as:

  • writing on the steamed shower screen

  • using chalk or paint on concrete

  • using a paint brush and water on concrete

  • in shaving cream smeared on a table, using a finger to write the numbers

  • in a sandpit or dirt using fingers

  • on a whiteboard

Building Numbers and making a collection of that number

Practise building a number between 1-10 and making a matching collection of items. You could make them out of playdough or find them in the garden.
